About Auto Temp A Tempered Glass Manufacturer in Ohio

For more than 20 years, Auto Temp, Inc. has been a trusted tempered glass manufacturer in Ohio. We make curved and flat glass for the automotive, construction, agriculture, recreational vehicle, heavy truck, mass transit and appliance industries. Our 200,000-square-foot plant in Batavia, just east of Cincinnati, runs five advanced furnaces for cylindrical, complex and compound bending. We stock more than 4,000 part numbers, and easy access to ground, air and water shipping gets them to customers quickly.

Why OEMs Choose Auto Temp

An OEM buyer is not choosing a glass supplier once. They are choosing one for the life of a vehicle program, which means the real question is whether the supplier will still be delivering to spec in year six.

Three things answer it.

Scope. Auto Temp runs every step in house, from engineering and tooling through cutting, printing, tempering and assembly to packing. A part does not change hands between companies partway through, which is where specification drift and finger pointing usually start.

Range. The plant tempers flat, cylindrical, compound and complex bends, and takes on press bending. A program needing more than one bend type is quoted and produced by one supplier.

Continuity. What keeps a program running when something goes wrong:

  • Duplicate equipment across critical operations
  • Production capacity deliberately held in reserve
  • Operators cross trained across the plant
  • Tier 2 secondary suppliers for higher volume component parts
  • Tier 2 glass supplier relationships for contingent supply of tempered parts
  • Organizational risk assessments reviewed quarterly in management review

Quality is systematic rather than individual. The quality system is ISO 9001:2015 registered, and parts are manufactured to ANSI/SAE Z26.1, FMVSS 205 and ECE requirements, which lets a part be specified against either the North American or the European framework without changing supplier.

The Batavia Facility

Auto Temp was founded in 1992 and has manufactured tempered glass in Batavia since. Over that time the plant has moved from flat and cylindrical work into compound bending, then into complex bending against tooling, then into assembly and value added work.

What has accumulated since matters more than the founding year:

  • More than 4,000 active part numbers
  • A standing inventory of more than 2,000 hardware applications
  • Supply relationships with seven North American float facilities
  • A customer base running from heavy equipment and agriculture through marine, recreational vehicles and mass transit into OEM automotive

An unusual requirement is often not unusual here. A shape, a thickness, a color or a hardware configuration that would be a development project for a specialist supplier has frequently already been run.
